INSTALLING THE TOOLS ==================== Step 01. Install Avisynth 2.5.7 - check box, Select Extra Files, click Next and install Step 02. Install FFDShow_2.0.9.4 - click Next> 3 times, on the Select Components screen, check all boxes, keep clicking Next> until you must click Install, then click Finish. Step 03. Copy RipIt4Me 1.7.1.0 to the root of Drive C:\ now right-click on the file, choose Pin to Start menu Step 04. Copy FixVTS_1.6 to the root of Drive C:\ Step 05. Copy the folder BatchDPG_1.4.4 to Drive C:\Program Files\, open the folder, right-click on BatchDPG144, choose Pin to Start menu Step 06. Copy the folder VOBMerge 2.5 to C:\Program Files\, open the folder, right-click on VOBMerge, choose Pin to Start menu Step 07. Install DVD Decryptor 3.5.4 - do not update, don't run Step 08. Install SUPER Converter. After installing navigate to C:\Program Files\eRightSoft\SUPER\ and right-click on SUPER.exe, choose Pin to Start menu. NOTE: this program can fussy to install. I suggest you DO NOTHING during the install. Don't even use your mouse! Just let it install. It takes time! However, if the install freezes, press ctrl+alt+del, End Task and retry the install. At the end of install, close the help window, uncheck the box, Start the application, and click Finish. NOTE: When I installed SUPER just minutes ago, I had to run the install 2 times before I finally got it installed. Also, this does not imply that it will fail converting VOB to DPG. SUPER works fine, but it takes time! RIPPING DVD =========== Step 09. Clean the DVD. Personally, I use CLEAN men's cotton underwear such as Hanes(R) brand because they don't scratch like so many other cotton materials. Wash them at least one time before using to clean CD/DVD discs. Before starting, position yourself near excellent lighting so you can clearly see the disc surface. Now using 91% isopropyl alcohol, wet the cotton and gently scrub the disc as necessary to clean properly. Once you have wet-cleaned the surface, flip the cotton to a dry area and lightly begin buffing the disc clean until it is smooth, slick, bright and shiny. Now, you have a disc ready to be ripped. This step eliminates MANY problems that can arise. I suggest adopting this cleaning technique for all of your optical media discs. If a clean disc is scratched and will not MOUNT, then either purchase a disc polisher or take the disc and have it polished. In the USA, you can take discs to a retail game store called GameStop. They charge a nominal fee to restore your original disc brand new-like condition. Step 10. Click the Start menu, click RipIt4me, click 1-Click Mode. It will flash, "No disc in drive" insert DVD movie. If a file window appears just close it. You will see that the movie disc information updated in the 1-Click Step 1 dialogue box. In Target directory, modify the name to your liking. For the Ripping settings, pull down and choose, Movie only. Default audio track, always change to English AC3 2-channels; but sometimes it is greyed out on 6-channel surround. Click Next>> RipIt4Me will automatically start DVD Decryptor and begin ripping the VOBs. NOTE 1: If you get error "The rip seems to have been aborted, RipIt4Me cannot continue" just click OK, then click OK about the logs. Then close RipIt4Me. Now test that the VOB files play properly using VLC Media Player. Hopefully you already downloaded and installed it. But, had you wanted to rip and burn to blank DVD, you would need to delete the RipIt4Me LOGS, delete the folder of ripped movie VOBs on Drive C: and restart the ripping operation using RipIt4Me. Also, when ripping with plans to burn to DVD, I suggest leaving your Internet connection alive, so RipIt4Me can get updates as needed. http://happyharry.net/slot1/apps/ripit4me.pdf NOTE 2: You CAN also rip DVD movies that you've already ripped, shrinked and burned to DVD. These movies, when converted to DPG, are a perfect example of the poorest video quality. Yet, they still actually look pretty good and you'll enjoy watching them. So, if you're friend has a shrinked movie, you can enjoy it on your NDS in DPG format. NOTE 3: In the case where a movie is ripped but wasn't shrinked, meaning it was decrypted and burned to DVD9 dual layer media, then ripping those VOBs and converting them to DPG will render the same video quality as ripping a retail DVD. Step 11. Joining the VOB files. Click Start menu and choose VOBMerge, click Add file, navigate to Drive C: and find your movie folder that you chose in Step 10. Be sure you change your files explorer view to "details", press and hold Shift and left-click on the first and last VOB file. Only choose VOBs that are large in size. Now, in VOBMerge, click the Move files up/down arrows to arrange the VOB files IN NUMERICAL ORDER (1,2,3,4,5) then click Merge, a save dialogue box pops up (in the same folder where the ripped VOBs are located. In the File name: field, type MovieName and click Save. VOBMerge will begin merging the VOBs. You're almost there! NOTE: Merging the 6 Apollo 13 VOBs took 7 min. 4 seconds. Close VOBMerge. Step 12. VOB to DPG using SUPER Converter. Navigate to Drive C: and the folder where your ripped movie VOBs are located. In this case it was C:\APOLLO13 - inside the folder you will see, in this example, the file Apoll 13.vob and it is 6.4 gigabytes in size because 6 VOBs were joined using VOBMerge. Now, click Start, click SUPER, be patient this program TAKES TIME TO LOAD, watch your Taskbar for it to show up. In the RED Select the Output Container, choose Nintendo - DS. In the GREEN Video Options section on the right, uncheck the box, 48K Audio. In the grey box below the red text OUTPUT, you can drag and drop files into this area. But, you can also right-click anywhere in the grey box and choose, Add Multimedia File(s), then navigate to the movie folder you ripped to, in this case Drive C: is showing so we double-click to open the APOLLO13 folder, or click once on the folder name and click Open. If the files are not listed by "DETAILS" change that now. Choose the VOB which is the largest size. Another clue as to which is the correct VOB to choose would be the movie name you typed earlier in Step 10. Click the MovieName.VOB and click Open. Now you see the file listed in the grey box and IT IS CHECKED. Now click, Encode (Active Files) button. Upon successful completion, the checkbox by the path and movie name will become UNCHECKED. VOB to DPG TAKES TIME! Apollo 13 (6.4 GigaBytes) took 2 hours 14 minutes to convert to 397 MegaBytes of DPG. NOTE: During this conversion process, a lot of time will pass and you will NOT see any progress showing in the progress bar. Don't worry. Eventually, you will see a little green appear in the progress bar. In this example, it took 31 minutes 20 seconds before I saw one pixel of green! When the conversion process eventually completes the Active box next to the path and file name will become UNCHECKED. I have YET to ever see the progress bar display even 50% of its progress. When it's all done, locate your DPG movie. Now, there's a little quirk which puts .vob in the file name. It's no big deal, the final extension is .dpg so the movie will play in Moonshell. But, I always delete the "vob" out of the filename so it reads plainer on my NDS. before: Apollo 13.vob.dpg after: Apollo 13.dpg BATCH CONVERTING VOB to DPG =========================== Although I have not tried doing this yet, I am sure you can add multiple, ripped and decrypted VOBs into the grey encoding box. Just remember... THEY TAKE TIME. As for myself, I just do them one movie at a time. WARNING: When using SUPER to convert VOB to DPG, it is recommended to disable your Local Area Connection (LAN) and disconnect from your network and the Internet, disable antivirus, disable resident anti-spyware/malware programs, and terminate programs running in the background that are not needed for DVD to DPG. If you have a quad-core CPU with lots of CPU horsepower, gobs of RAM, and Big_Kahuna's, then go ahead and convert while enjoying Microsoft's preemptive multitasking capability. But SUPER is a hog and it's fussy and if you run it solo, you'll have better results. AND, on PCs with LESS horsepower, you MUST adhere to these warnings and only convert VOB to DPG and do nothing else while your PC is on. // ENJOY //
